The Nifty crossed 23,900 and the Sensex jumped 549 points on Monday as both indices snapped a five-day losing streak on falling crude oil prices.

The Sensex and Nifty snapped a five-day losing streak on Monday, opening sharply higher as crude oil prices fell 5 per cent.

The Sensex opened at 76,608.98, up 549.21 points or 0.72 per cent, while the Nifty crossed the 23,900 mark to open at 23,928.40, a gain of 160.95 points.

Both benchmarks had ended Friday’s session at more than a month’s low, with the Sensex at 76,059.77 and the Nifty at 23,767.45.

The rebound followed a sharp drop in crude oil prices as tensions eased in West Asia, with oil pulling back from last week’s two-month high.

Among the Sensex gainers, IndiGo led with a 3.11 per cent jump, followed by Eternal, Infosys, Asian Paints and Bajaj Finance.

The broader market also gained, with the BSE Smallcap Select Index rising 1.05 per cent to 8,677.49.
