Flights remained normal at Delhi’s IGI Airport on Tuesday even as the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rain across the NCR.
The airport’s advisory, issued by operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), confirmed operations were unaffected so far, while cautioning that weather conditions around the capital could turn adverse through the day.
Travellers were advised to check their flight status with their respective airlines directly before heading to the airport, given the possibility of last-minute changes.
Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo also put out their own advisories, asking passengers to stay updated on flight timings during the red alert period.
The IMD forecast cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds for Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, with a further spell of rain expected later in the evening or night.
An orange alert has also been placed on the region for the following 48 hours, suggesting the wet spell will continue even after Tuesday’s red alert conditions subside.
The warning follows a similar red alert issued a day earlier for eastern Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra, where the IMD flagged extremely heavy rainfall and flood risk, part of a broader active monsoon pattern across the north and west.
Red alerts had also covered the hill states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the week as the same system tracked across the country.
Separately, authorities warned that the heavy rain could cause traffic congestion and waterlogging in several low-lying parts of the city.
Commuters were urged to check road conditions before travelling and avoid flooded routes during intense rain, even as flight operations continued without reported disruption, with travellers advised to plan for possible delays given the unsettled outlook for the coming days.
The airport has said passengers can track live flight information through its official website and social media channels for the latest updates through the day.
