The Nifty 50 dropped 102.15 points to 23,767.45 and the Sensex fell 331.62 points to 76,059.77 on Friday, a fifth straight losing session driven by rising crude oil prices.

India’s key equity benchmarks fell for a fifth straight session on Friday, pressured by a renewed climb in crude oil prices tied to tensions between the United States and Iran.

The Nifty 50 dropped 102.15 points, or 0.43 per cent, to close at 23,767.45, moving below the 23,800 level. The Sensex fell 331.62 points, also 0.43 per cent, to settle at 76,059.77.

Sectors most exposed to global commodity costs bore the brunt of the selling, with auto, metal and energy stocks among the worst hit.

IT and media counters moved against the broader trend and closed higher, limiting the extent of the fall in both indices.

This marks the fifth consecutive session in which the Sensex and Nifty have ended lower.
