Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand have been placed under a red alert by the India Meteorological Department, which has forecast very heavy rainfall over the next two days.
The IMD has also forecast widespread rainfall over Ladakh through the rest of the week.
Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 80 kmph in some areas, raising concerns about uprooted trees and power outages.
The department has cautioned of traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying localities because of the continuing rain.
Landslides and sudden rises in river water levels remain a risk in the hilly states, authorities have warned.
