Why large concerts need police permission in Delhi: The Diljit Dosanjh case

Delhi Police have denied permission for Diljit Dosanjh's October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which was to open the Aura India Tour, citing security concerns and the festive season, according to reports on October 22.

Large events in Delhi need permissions covering crowd management, traffic and security.

Delhi Police denied permission for Diljit Dosanjh’s October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Reasons cited include security concerns and the festive season.

The organisers have not announced a revised date or venue.

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Delhi, sent a letter to the ticketing platform BookMyShow saying the request could not be approved, according to ETV Bharat.

The reasons were reportedly security concerns, threat-related inputs, the festive season and other law and order requirements, according to the same report.

PTI, as cited by ETV Bharat, said the police cited security concerns and the festive season.

Aryan Age attributes the denial to security concerns alone and reports that the show is now postponed.

The concert was first planned for November 1 and was moved to October 30 because of sensitivities around the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, according to Aryan Age.

The reports reviewed carried no response from Diljit Dosanjh or from BookMyShow.

The reports did not give ticket or refund information for the Delhi show.

The reported schedule of the Aura India Tour includes Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Kolkata, according to ETV Bharat.

Diljit Dosanjh spoke on September 24 about a planned performance at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 21, according to the same report.

The effect of the denial on the wider tour schedule has not been announced, according to ETV Bharat.
