Alia Bhatt called for relief support for flood-affected Assam in a post on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday.
“It happens every year and it still catches us off guard,” she wrote, referring to the recurring monsoon floods that hit the state annually.
The actress added, “Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it’ll need support for the long road to recovery,” highlighting the scale of both the immediate and long-term need.
The floods have killed more than 60 people so far, a toll the Assam State Disaster Management Authority has since revised to 75.
An estimated 4.45 lakh people across 631 villages have been hit by the floods, with many families losing homes, land and livestock.
Bhatt said she would share details of relief organisations working on the ground over the following days, using the hashtag #CircleOfHope for her posts.
Her appeal follows similar moves by other Bollywood figures, including Salman Khan, whose Being Human foundation has launched a multi-phase relief drive supplying food and essentials.
Bhumi Pednekar has also backed relief efforts, while Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap have contributed to the Assam Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.
Relief and rescue operations remain ongoing across the worst-affected parts of the state.
Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat and Nagaon districts have been among the hardest hit, with the Brahmaputra and its tributaries flowing above danger levels after sustained heavy rain, prompting Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to direct state ministers to coordinate the relief and rehabilitation response.
The Assam floods have become an annual monsoon crisis in the state, with rivers including the Brahmaputra regularly breaching embankments and displacing large numbers of families across low-lying districts.
Bollywood celebrities have a long history of using their social media platforms to draw national attention to disaster relief efforts, often crediting on-ground organisations directly to help channel donations more effectively.
