Resorts in Malad (2026): A Beach Stay on Madh Island

Search for resorts in Malad and you’ll mostly land on its western coastline, around Madh Island. The Retreat Hotel and Convention Centre, on Erangal Beach, is one of them, with a private exit to the sea, a lagoon-shaped pool, four dining venues and 12 event halls.

The City, Just Out of Earshot

Malad, in most people’s heads, is malls, office towers and the Link Road at rush hour. Fair. But keep driving west. The buildings thin out. The air changes. Fishing nets dry on bamboo frames, a rooster objects to something, and the road starts winding past palm groves toward the sea.

I’ll own up to something. For the longest time, I’d have laughed if you’d told me there were beach resorts in Malad. Malad? Where I once spent forty minutes trying to exit a mall parking lot? Turns out the same suburb has a coastline, and a pretty lovely one.

Malad’s Quiet Coast Is Getting Closer

Why look at a resort in Malad at all? Partly because Mumbai’s hotel market is famously tight. The city’s hotels had the highest occupancy in India in 2025, at 77.1%, with market-wide average daily rates of ₹12.3k, second only to Udaipur, according to Horwath HTL’s India Hotel Market Review. A beach break that doesn’t need a flight starts to look pretty sensible.

Then there’s access. Malad’s Madh Island is separated from Versova by Malad Creek, and the road route between them is a detour of about 21 km. In September 2026, the Bombay High Court cleared the way for a bridge that would cut that to around 1.5 km, and the trip from nearly 1.5 hours to about five minutes. It’s still to be built. But the direction of travel, so to speak, is clear.

What to Look for in a Resort in Malad

“Resort” gets used loosely around here. A few things I’d check first:

  • • Is it actually on a beach, or just on the way to one?
  • • A pool. A proper one. Malad’s sea is pretty, but it isn’t always swimming friendly.
  • • Food on the property, since nobody wants to drive back toward the city for dinner.
  • • Something for the kids, beyond a single slide.
  • • Event space, if the plan involves a birthday, a reunion or the office.

How The Retreat Fits

On Erangal Beach

The Retreat Hotel and Convention Centre is on Erangal Beach, off Madh Marve Road, set in what it describes as a quiet fishing hamlet north of the city. It has a private exit to the ocean, which the hotel says keeps the crowds down, and it has been in hospitality for more than 25 years, per the hotel.

Pools for Every Swimmer

The centrepiece is a lagoon-shaped swimming pool with an open-air jacuzzi. Little ones get their own kids pool and play area, and there’s a toddlers room too. Add volleyball, water polo, indoor sports, a gym and massage therapies at the health club, and the day takes care of itself.

Five Room Types

Choose from the Deluxe Room, Executive Room, Superior Suite, Deluxe Suite or Presidential Suite. The Superior Suite comes with palm views, and the Presidential Suite has a separate living room looking out over the ocean and the resort grounds. Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a TV and a tea and coffee maker are standard.

Something for Every Craving

Tangerine, the 24-hour cafe, handles coffee, snacks and desserts at any hour. Oriental Bowl serves Pan Asian with a bar. Lagoon, the pool-view cafe, does a la carte, and the Sunken Bar pours cocktails by the pool.

Space for the Big Plans

There are 12 conference and convention halls and a guest capacity of 700+, per the hotel. It also describes itself as a sought-after wedding venue.

What Guests Say

The reviews featured on the hotel’s website come mostly from groups, which tells you something. Leon Menezes, Program Manager at TEACH, thanked the staff for their hospitality and their continuous cooperation throughout the team’s stay. Vikram Rao (DBS), after a company offsite, wrote: “We are writing to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for the outstanding experience we had at your resort during our recent offsite.”

And from a guest who simply came to stay, Anthony Rozario: “It was really a good stay and excellent food! All Staff were excellent, Good Property!” Short and sweet.

Who Will Like It Here?

  • • Families from the western suburbs who want a beach weekend without a long highway drive.
  • • Couples. Look at the Seaside Serenity Package or Honeymooner’s Paradise.
  • • Corporate teams after an offsite that doesn’t feel like another conference room.
  • • School, college and alumni groups planning a reunion.
  • • Anyone who needs a reset. The Rejuvenation Package is named for exactly that.

At the time of writing, the hotel lists the Rejuvenation Package, Staycation Package, The Autumn Getaway Package (MAP), Getaway Package (CP), Seaside Serenity Package and Honeymooner’s Paradise, plus a Club Membership offer. These rotate with the seasons, so check the official website before you book.
